Compilation of Geochemical Atlases
The Geochemical Atlas of Cyprus is being undertaken for the Geological Survey Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment of Cyprus by NewSouth Global (the commercial arm of the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia) in association with Rutherford Mineral Resource Consultants (Australia) and ADCS.
Overall administrative management is co-ordinated by New South Global, program technical design and sample collection, assessment and reporting are managed by Dr. David Cohen (UNSW) and Dr. Neil Rutherford, Rutherford Mineral Resource Consultants. Project management in Cyprus is undertaken by ADCS. The project uses UNSW staff as field supervisors and employs Cypriot staff to undertake soil sampling.
The objective of this project is to provide a detailed "snap-shot" of the distribution of heavy metals and other chemicals in the soils of Cyprus. Soil samples from surface and 50 cm depth have been collected at an approximate density of 1 sample per 1 km2. The results will be published in the form of an atlas.
